Catholic church dedicates statue to Mohawk woman
Monday, August 18, 2003

Members of several New Mexico tribes attended the dedication of a statue to the Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, a 17th century Mohawk woman credited with several miracles.

The statue is located at the St. Francis Cathedral in Santa Fe. The archdiocese commissioned Jemez Pueblo artist Estella Loretto to build the sculpture.

Kateri Tekakwitha has been beatified, a step below full sainthood.
