S.D. police investigating Janklow for fatal crash
Tuesday, August 19, 2003

South Dakota state police are investigating a fatal accident in which Rep. Bill Janklow, the state's former governor, killed a motorcyclist.

Charges may be brought against Janklow, who joined the U.S. Congress in 2002. He was driving his Cadillac north of Sioux Falls on Saturday when it struck and killed Randy E. Scott, 55.

Janklow is said to be devastated by the accident. He has not spoken to anyone about it, according to his son.

A local prosecutor said he is awaiting results of blood alcohol tests but does not believe alcohol was involved. A passenger was with Janklow.
