Obituary: Donald Malonson, Wampanoag chief

Donald Malonson, the long-time chief of the Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts, died Friday. He was 86. Malonson led the state's only federally-recognized tribe for 51 years. He served as a traditional leader in addition to the tribe's elected chair. The tribe is based on the island of Martha's Vineyard. It received federal recognition in 1987. Get the Story:
