Shirley addresses Navajo Nation council session

The Navajo Nation council opened its 20th annual summer session on Monday.

In his State of the Navajo Nation address, President Joe Shirley Jr. spoke about a number of issues, including the Senate's energy bill, the tribal sovereignty protection initiative and tribal reforms. He criticized the energy bill and said it would allow development of Indian lands without tribal consent.
