Mohegan Tribe's basketball team loses $1.1M
Tuesday, September 2, 2003

The Connecticut Sun, the Mohegan Tribe's WNBA team, lost $1.1 million in its first three months of operation, The Norwich Bulletin reports.

Attendance of the team's games, except for the season opener and a few others, was sparse. The average attendance rate was lower than the WNBA league average.

Tribal chairman Mark Brown and other executives aren't surprised by the losses. They say it takes time to get a new team off the ground.

The tribe purchased the team for $10 million and is the first tribe to own a sports franchise.
