Some Juaneno tribal members protest opening of school
Thursday, September 4, 2003

Some members of the Juaneno Band of Mission Indians protested the opening of a Catholic school where the athletic complex will be built on a tribal burial ground.

The school worked with one tribal member, David Belardes, to rebury the remains. But others were not consulted and wanted the remains to be left alone.

The athletic complex is on 29 acres of the school site.
