Appeals court affirms Neb. tribe's tax victory
Tuesday, September 9, 2003
The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals last Thursday upheld the right of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska to trade with other tribes free of state interference.
The tribe sells gasoline to three Kansas tribes. The state of Kansas tried to impose a $1.25 million tax on the tribe's dealings but two courts have said the tax is illegal.
