Man studies history and culture of Yuchi Tribe
Tuesday, September 23, 2003

A recently published book looks at the history and culture of the Yuchi Tribe of Oklahoma.

Researcher Jason Jackson, an ethnology curator at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, wrote Yuchi Ceremonial Life: Performance, Meaning and Tradition in a Contemporary American Indian Community. He is following it up with additional studies on the tribe.

The tribe was based in Tennessee before being forced to join the Creek Nation and removed to Oklahoma. The tribe sought separate federal recognition but was denied by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
