N.D. tribe to unveil Sakakawea statue Oct. 16

The Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation will unveil the statue of Sakakawea October 16 at the National Statuary Hall in Washington, D.C.

Chairman Tex Hall will lead a horseback parade from the Washington Monument, down the National Mall and oto the U.S. Capitol. There, the tribe will set up a teepee with dancers and singers.

The Sakakawea statue is North Dakota's second in the national hall. Each state is allowed two.

The states of New Mexico, Nevada and Wyoming have Indian representatives in the hall.
