Yellow Bird: Hog farm not as bad as I thought
Monday, September 29, 2003
"What is it like in the hog factory farm? Not as bad as I thought.
When I turned off the highway to go to the farm, the air began to get heavy with the smell of hog waste. I had second thoughts about going inside; I wondered how much worse it would get. But once inside, the smell wasn't so bad.
Tibor Balazs or "Tibi," as he's called, met me at the entrance. From there, I had to shower - yes, all clothes off - and dress in a jumpsuit and big, black rubber boots. What, I wondered, will be I be stepping in that requires these big boots?
Now, the smell is beginning to seem normal - well, almost."
