Calif. tribes spend $11M on recall race

California gaming tribes have spent $11 million on the state's recall race and could end up spending more before the October 7 election, the group Common Cause says.

Most of the money has gone to Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante (D), a long-time supporter of Indian issues. Tribes have spent about $6 million for his campaign.

Another beneficiary is Republican state Sen. Tom McClintock, who is trailing behind actor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Tribes have spent $2.5 million to support him.

Some tribes have also donated to Gov. Gray Davis (D) who continues to lose support, according to polls.
