Conn. claims Indian tax case could cost millions
Friday, October 3, 2003

Connecticut attorney general Richard Blumenthal claims an Indian woman seeking a tax exemption for income she earned from her tribe will cost the state and local communities millions and affect land use regulations.

Blumenthal is fighting a suit by a member of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. He says that land within the tribe's settlement area that is not held in trust should not be considered Indian Country.

Jo-Ann Dark Eyes, a member of the tribe, earned $3.6 million while working for the tribe. At the time she lived on non-trust land but within the settlement boundaries.
