Pechanga chairman says tribe received hate mail

The Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians has received hate mail due to Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger's recall campaign, chairman Mark Macarro says.

Schwarzenegger has aired radio and television ads claiming California tribes make billions off their casinos but share nothing with the state. Tribal leaders say the ads are inaccurate and say they contribute hundreds of millions to the economy.

Ernie Stevens, president of the National Indian Gaming Association, said California tribes with casinos have created 40,000 jobs and its employees have paid $280 million in federal taxes. Under compacts with the state, the tribes pay about $130 million to the state.
