School employee protests use of Indian prayers
Monday, October 6, 2003

University of California officials are restricting their use of Indian blessings and prayers at official events in response to a complaint by an employee who says he was forced to pray.

Will Osuna objected to the ceremonies because he said they are religious in nature. Others say they are cultural and should be allowed.

University officials now say they will make sure any blessings or prayers aren't conducted on university time. Osuna resigned his post as assistant director of a minority outreach program due to his objections.
