Students stay positive on Indigenous Peoples Day
Tuesday, October 14, 2003

Indian students at the University of Montana's focused on the positive achievements of Native Americans with Indigenous Peoples Day.

Organizers said they wanted the event to be more about them than a certain European explorer. "As a celebration of Indian heritage, we believed this could serve as a better educational tool and that it would better serve the best interests of the American Indians on campus," Lloyd Deveraux, president of UM's student chapter of American Indian Business Leaders, told The Missoulian.

The day included speeches from students and faculty.
