Muckleshoot family fights tribe over trust land lease
Tuesday, October 21, 2003

The Muckleshoot Tribe of Washington is being forced to create additional parking space at its casino in response to a legal battle with a tribal family.

The tribe obtained a lease to build a parking lot on 10 acres of land owned by the King George family. But the family was never told that the tribe submitted another lease to build on 9 acres of their land.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs approved both leases. The family never gave permission for the 9-acre lease and have won a court order blocking the tribe from using the land.
