Alaska village considers hosting nuclear reactor

The Alaska Native village of Galena has been asked to host a small nuclear reactor, t he first of its kind in the United States.

Toshiba Corp. or Japan selected Galena as a test site for economic reasons. Gasoline in the village costs $3.35 a gallon and diesel-generated electricity costs twice as much as in other parts of the state.

Toshiba says the reactor could supply clean power to the village for 30 years.
