Eviction of Oneida Nation families delayed
Friday, October 24, 2003
The Oneida Nation of New York has ordered the eviction of four families from tribal land but a lawyer for the families says an agreement could be near.
The families were told to leave by this Sunday. Their lawyer is negotiating with the tribe over the possibility of restoring tribal benefits, The Syracuse Post-Standard reported.
The families have opposed the policies of nation representative Ray Halbritter and
say they are being unfairly targeted. The tribe says it is trying to protect the families from substandard homes.
