A police officer who recanted key testimony before the inquiry into the death of a Native teen in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, is undergoing scrutiny.

Keith Jarvis originally said a witness placed Neil Stonechild, 17, in the back of a police cruiser shortly before he was found dead in a remote area of town. Jarvis now says an investigator from the Royal Canadian Mountain Police planted that suggestion in his mind.

As part of the RCMP investigation, which resulted in no charges, Jarvis was asked if he would take a lie detector test. He refused and reportedly became angry.

Stonechild died in 1990. Many in the Native community suspect police involvement.
