Senate set to confirm Leavitt as head of EPA
Tuesday, October 28, 2003

The Senate is set to vote today to confirm Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt (R) as head of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Several Democrats had put a hold on Leavitt in order to get more information out of the White House. The last holdouts dropped their objections yesterday.

As governor, Leavitt has fought the Skull Valley Goshute Tribe's plans to host a nuclear waste facility on its reservation. The EPA does not have direct say over the facility.
