Mohawk chiefs seek community support for deals
Friday, October 31, 2003

The leaders of the Akwesasne Mohawk Nation of New York plan four voter referendums over land, tax and gaming agreements with the state.

The three chiefs, who were recently elected, say community support was lacking for a major agreement the previous administration signed with Gov. George Pataki (R). They still plan on resolving the tribe's land, tax and gaming issues but will tackle the issues separately.
