Native leaders seek negotiation over logging rights

Bouyed by a recent court ruling, First Nations leaders in New Brunswick want the provincial government to negotiate lobbing rights.

On Monday, the Court of Queen's Bench said that Maliseet and Mi'kmaq Natives are free to cut wood on Crown land for firewood, to build houses or make furniture. The ruling affirmed a judge who said a 1725 treaty preserved aboriginal rights.
