Judge names special master in Everglades case

A Miami lawyer who has mediated environmental disputes was named the special master in the Everglades case on Thursday.

John M. Barkett will oversee cleanup of the Miccosukee Tribe's homeland. The tribe has criticized the way the state and the federal government are carrying out the $8 billion project.

The special master was requested by the tribe and environmentalists.
