Piestewa family watched movie on Jessica Lynch
Tuesday, November 11, 2003
The parents of Lori Piestewa, the Hopi woman killed in action in Iraq, say a television movie about Jessica Lynch, a friend and roommate of their daughter, was done in good taste.
Piestewa was driving the humvee Lynch was riding in when their Army unit was ambushed in the southern desert of Iraq. After coming under enemy fire, the vehicle crashed into another vehicle.
Priscilla Piestewa, Lori's mother, said the depiction of the ambush matched accounts they have been told. Terry Piestewa said the movie wasn't as emotional as the attack must have been. In the movie, Lori was portrayed by Crystle Lightning. Priscilla said the actress resembled her daughter.
Lynch will appear in a televised interview on ABC tonight. "I don't look at myself as a hero," she told Diane Sawyer. "My heroes are Lori, the soldiers that are over there, the soldiers that were in that car beside me, the ones that came and rescued me."
