Daschle may vote against energy bill filibuster
Thursday, November 20, 2003

Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) said he supports the national energy policy legislation and might vote against a filibuster.

The Senate started debate on the bill yesterday as Democrats and some Republicans spoke against it. They said it was filled with provisions for special interests that would not benefit Americans.

Some Democrats, however, will vote for it. Daschle supports provisions for ethanol providers in his state.

The bill seeks to streamline energy development on Indian lands by limiting the Department of Interior's role. Subject to certain conditions, the bill would waive the government's liability for those tribes who voluntarily enter into tribal energy resource agreements.

The text of the conference report for the bill can be found at http://energy.senate.gov/legislation/energybill2003/energybill2003.cfm
