NCAI walks for health and fitness at convention
Thursday, November 20, 2003

Attendees of the 60th annual National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Wednesday held the first Native American Health and Fitness Day.

Pueblo/Navajo golfer Notah Begay led the march to call attention to health problems facing Indian Country. Begay will provide the keynote at NCAI's annual banquet tonight.

The walk was accompanied by a new partnership between the Indian Health Service (IHS) and Nike to promote healthy lifestyles. Dr. Charles Grim, the IHS director, addressed the NCAI delegates in the morning. A copy of the agreement can be found at http://www.ihs.gov/PublicInfo/PublicAffairs/
