Man. speech from the throne promises Native action

The Manitoba Speech from the Throne was delivered on Thursday.

The provincial government said it would create an Aboriginal Justice program at a new university in the North. Special efforts will be placed on Native education, the speech stated. A new Aboriginal Education Action Plan seeks to increase graduation rates of Native students; recruit and train more Native educators, health professionals and community workers; and develop partnerships with businesses.

The government also said it would create an Aboriginal Issues Committee of Cabinet to handle government-to-government relations.
