Special master in Everglades case issues first report
Tuesday, December 2, 2003

The special master in the Everglades case has issued his first report, citing missed deadlines and other problems associated with the $8 billion cleanup project.

The Miccosukee Tribe and environmental groups said they were satisfied with the 41-page document. Both asked a federal judge to appoint a special master. They say the state is not meeting its obligations.

The tribe has a case before the Supreme Court, seeking to stop state water managers from pumping dirty water onto its land. Oral arguments will be heard January 14.
