Judge reserves decision in death of Native woman
Sunday, February 22, 2004

The manslaughter trial of a man accused of running over and killing a Native woman ended on Thursday with a ruling from the judge expected next month.

Cynthia Sanderson, a mother of two and a member of the Mistawasis First Nation of Saskatchewan, died in an August 2002 incident that tribal leaders and witnesses say was racially motivated. Witnesses say Anthony Barr yelled racial slurs at Sanderson and a group of Natives.

Barr was drinking heavily that night and was on prescription valium.
