SDSU studens and alumni pick new Aztec mascot
Friday, December 12, 2003

San Diego State students and alumni voted overwhelmingly to approve a new version of the school's Aztec warrior mascot.

The mascot replaces "Monty Montezuma," which Native and Hispanic groups said was offensive and inaccurate. The new Warrior is culturally more reflective of Aztec dress and symbolism, although he still carries a shield and spear and still wears sandals.
