Two Eastern tribes receive wildlife grants from DOI
Friday, February 13, 2004

Two tribes in the Carolinas are among the recipients of nearly $14 million in wildlife grants from the Department of Interior.

The Catawba Nation of South Carolina received $450,000. The tribe will use a $250,000 Tribal Wildlife Grant to buy about 200 acres for hunting and fishing and to preserve traditions for younger members. A $200,000 Tribal Landowner Incentive Program will be used for individual tribal members.

The Eastern Band of Cherokees of North Carolina also received $450,000. A $250,000 grant will be used for renovations of a tribal trout hatchery. Another $200,000 will be used for a plant and animal survey.
