Curtis grave to be refurbished

MONDAY, MAY 13, 2002 The grave site of Vice President Charles Curtis and his wife will be refurbished. The project will include an engraving on his headstone of the vice presidential seal and the words "Son of the Kanza Nation." Curtis was Kaw and was the first Native senator and only member of the White House. A bank has donated $2,500 to clean up site, which is located in Topeka, Kansas. Get the Story:
