WEDNESDAY, MAY 15, 2002

The Fort Belknap Tribes of Montana will submit their own voting plan for a local county because they weren't consulted properly.

Blaine County officials said they tried to get in touch with the tribe but couldn't reach anyone. So they submitted their plan to a federal judge.

Council President Ben Speakthunder, however, said at least eight council members were available.

A new map is required because a federal judge ruled that the county was violating the rights of Native voters.
