Bush won't ease lead-testing rules

The Bush administration is backing off a proposal to ease regulations which require lead testing of low-income children.

Thomas Scully, the director of the Centers on Medicaid and Medicare, said comments made by an agency physician were "off the reservation," The Washington Post reported. Gerald Zelinger drew complaints after he told a federal panel the Bush administration wanted to let states develop their own plans without rigorous federal oversight.
