Tribal recognition bill vetoed

WEDNESDAY, MAY 15, 2002 Maryland Gov. Parris N. Glendening on Tuesday vetoed legislation to require the state to act on a tribe's recognition claim within 120 days. Glendening (D) said the bill would only give state tribes a quicker avenue to federal recognition and casinos. But tribal opponents said they were tired of waiting for years to receive an answer on their petition. Get the Story:
