Alaska whaling crew rescued

WEDNESDAY, MAY 15, 2002 A whaling crew was rescued in Alaska on Sunday after an ice shelf cracked off and began to drift into the Arctic Ocean. About 90 members of the Barrow crew were stranded and forced to abandon a bowhead whale they had caught. The move was especially disappointing because the hunt this year has produced just two whales. The crew was rescued by a helicopter. Get the Story:
