Sen. Byron L. Dorgan (D-N.D.) chaired a hearing on Friday to find out what happened to the Sacagawea gold dollar.

According to media account of the proceeding, no one really knows why the coin is not in greater circulation except that some are hoarding it. The U.S. Mint is considering ways to increase circulation.

The coin was launched with a $62.4 million campaign.
