Alaska lease sale nets $64M

Four oil companies bid a total of $63.8 million for oil and gas leases in Alaska's National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, the Bureau of Land Management announced Monday.

The leases cover 579,269 acres in the northeast corner of the NPR-A. The largest bidder was French oil company TotalFinaElf with $52.9 million.

NPR-A includes Native-owned fee lands in a separate area not covered by the sales announced yesterday.
