Editorial: Keep Lakota language alive

THURSDAY, JUNE 6, 2002 The Sioux Falls Argus Leader in an editorial today praises the work of a university group to preserve the Lakota language. The paper cites statistics that less than 1/4 of the population on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota can speak the language. This is down from 1/2 a decade ago, the paper writes. The paper says the Lakota Language Consortium at University faces a tough task. "This is a welcome effort," the paper writes. "We need it." Get the Story:
