The award-winning all-Inuit film "The Fast Runner" is opening in the United States to positive reviews.

The film, directed by Zacharias Kunuk, is based on Inuit legend and features non-professional Inuit actors. Made in the Canadian Arctic, the story "makes a rather provocative statement about the universality of creation myths found among the most diverse societies," writes John Anderson of Newsday in New York.

The New York Times runs a previously published review which offered glowing praise for the film. "The Fast Runner," writes A.O. Scott, "is not merely an interesting document from a far-off place; it is a masterpiece."
