Tribe's political dollars refused

MONDAY, JUNE 10, 2002

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation offered Democrats money to fight a candidate who wants the tribe terminated.

But the Norwich Democratic Town Committee financed a campaign package against Jeff Benedict with other funds, The Norwich Bulletin reported. The committee questioned Benedict's Republican ties and endorsed Joe Courtney for for 2nd Congressional district.

The incumbent if Rep. Rob Simmons (R) who is enjoying a strong GOP push.
