Action on Minn. sacred site urged

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12, 2002 Action was delayed on Monday on a resolution to urge recognition of a sacred mountain in Minnesota. The Duluth City Council wanted more time to revise the language of the resolution. The document calls on land-use decisions to take into account the spiritual significance of Spirit Mountain. Former vice presidential candidate and Native activist Winona LaDuke spoke to the council last night. She wrote an opinion piece published in a local newspaper citing the Mountain's importance in Ojibwe culture. Get the Story:
