The Shoalwater Tribe of Washington is still seeking answers on a high rate of infant mortality the reservation endured for a decade.

At one point, two out of three babies were resulting in death. The rate was confirmed by federal health investigators but the tribe was given little answers on a possible cause.

The tribe has spent time and money tracking down the root of the problem. Signs point to environmental contamination.

But the bad times appear to have ceased and the mortality rate has dropped to 25 percent, close to the national average.
