State and local officials in Connecticut reacted negatively to the Bureau of Indian Affairs' decision to recognize the Eastern Pequot Tribe on Monday.

Rep. Rob Simmons (R-Conn.) joined the chorus of critics who said two rival factions were not deserving of federal status. State Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and three towns are expected to appeal the decision and sue if necessary.
