Thanks to an ambitious hatchery program, red salmon have returned to the village of Nanwalek in Alaska.

Funding for the program came from the Exxon Valdez Trustees Council, the Administration for Native Americans and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. About $150,000 to $200,000 has been spent a year to ensure salmon eggs survive in the English Bay River.
