FRIDAY, JULY 19, 2002

Army Secretary Thomas E. White testified before a Senate committee on Thursday about his former company Enron.

White told the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee that he was unaware of company memos which described alleged manipulation of energy prices that affected California's power crisis. Democrats on the panel didn't believe him and called on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate his role.

Enron went bankrupt last year.
