MONDAY, JULY 22, 2002 The New London Day in an editorial today criticizes the House for overwhelmingly stripping a spending bill of a commission to study Indian gaming. The paper singles out Rep. John H. Larson, a Democrat from Connecticut, for not supporting the proposal. The paper writes: "[I]t's especially too bad that Congressman Larson doesn't share the same concerns as the rest of Connecticut's congressional delegation." According to the paper, the state's delegation wants to find out why Indian Country is poor by examinging how "gambling is affecting the welfare of Indian tribes, and the influence of non-Indian investors in the federal recognition process and the influence of non-Indians in establishing gambling facilities on reservations."
