Fran Ulmer, the Democratic candidate for governor in Alaska, has taken her campaign to rural Alaska in hopes of reaching Native voters.

Ulmer currently serves as lieutenant governor to Tony Knowles, who cannot run due to term limits. She recently visited villages along the Nenana and Yukon rivers.

The Republican candidate is Frank Murkowski, who is supported by many Alaska Natives for his years in the Senate.
