TUESDAY, JULY 23, 2002 Rep. Rob Simmons (R-Conn.) doesn't want to be associated with a Republican bigshot because it would also associate him with the Eastern Pequot Tribe of Connecticut. Simmons plans to return a $350 donation from Ronald C. Kaufman, a former White House political director and Republican National Committee member from Massachusetts. The reason was Kaufman's lobbying work for the Pequot Tribe. Kaufman has been paid $500,000, according to The New London Day.
