More Colombian violence feared

FRIDAY, AUGUST 9, 2002

Some Colombians are predicting more blood will be shed in the country's forty-year civil war.

The U.S. has given about $2 billion to Colombia to fight the drug trade, which fuels the major guerilla groups. Many rural farmers and Indians oppose U.S. involvement because they say it will infringe on their land rights.

The rebel groups themselves have targeted Indian populations.
